What makes our club such a great place to connect?

Find out by watching our President and Marketing Director on Live from Chevy Chase as they share the friendships, fun and community spirit that bring us together. Keep scrolling to learn more about what Newcomers & Friends has to offer.

Welcome!

We're glad you found us.

We are all excited to say goodbye to the month of February. It was a “hold my beer” kind of month with all the challenges thrown at us, including ice, snow and freezing temps. We missed a lot of our favorite activities for getting together, but we stayed safe and cheered when the ice melted.

Now we’re on to March and the promise of springtime and warmer days ahead. We’re looking forward to seeing members and guests at the club’s first March luncheon on a Saturday at the Columbia Steakhouse on Richmond Road, March 14. Don’t forget that March 1 is the registration deadline.

Continuing our 50th birthday celebration, we’re recognizing Jean Scaravilli who joined in 1993. She joined as soon as she moved to the area so she could meet people. She had missed the opportunity to join the Newcomers group in Northern Kentucky where the requirement for membership was that you had lived in the area fewer than two years. The Newcomers Club of Lexington eliminated that barrier to membership in 2010. In the early days of Jean’s membership, she was still teaching full-time so her activities were limited to nighttime canasta. Once she retired, her time opened up, and she embraced all the club had to offer with more card groups, book clubs, quilting, mah jongg, and club luncheons. “I love being a member” she says, “and will continue until I am too feeble to participate.” Jean, we look forward to having you as a member for many more years to come.

March means that it’s time to join Jean and renew your membership. We hope that each one of you has enjoyed 2025 as a member of the club and will continue your membership. A special thank you goes to Website Director Pam Carney. She has spent hours putting the renewal process together on the website and crafting emails to the membership with simple, easy to follow directions for renewing. She also made swift improvements to the process when renewing wasn’t as easy as we had hoped. Also, thank you to membership director Dana McKinney who is keeping track of all of you as you renew and activity director Leslie Gersten who is making sure that activity leaders get updated information on members’ interests.

Did you know that the club has more 20 activities each month? Some of the new activities starting up shortly are Let’s Paint, New Beginnings/Journaling, Outdoor Adventures, and Bunco. Activities looking for a leader are Biking, Bridge, Gardening, Movies with Discussion, and Themed Dinner at Home.  If you have an idea for an activity, or would be willing to lead an activity, contact Leslie.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our gatherings!

Brenda,

Newcomers & Friends of Lexington President
