What makes our club such a great place to connect?

Find out by watching our President and Marketing Director on Live from Chevy Chase as they share the friendships, fun and community spirit that bring us together. Keep scrolling to learn more about what Newcomers & Friends has to offer.

Welcome!

We're glad you found us.

The calendar says it’s spring, although as I write this, it sure doesn’t feel like it. However, there is great joy in celebrating the many little things spring brings to us, including the stunning ruby-throated hummingbird migrating through the Lexington area in mid-April. Take a moment to try to spot these tiny wonders.

The club’s members have an amazing array of talent that we see on display every day. This was once again so very evident with the outstanding March Luncheon that Barbara Shears and Linda Beyer organized. We had so much fun and enjoyed some trips down memory lane while we continued the club’s 50th birthday celebration. We’ll continue the celebration at the June 10 General Membership Luncheon, so make sure it’s on your calendar. Register today here.

We continue to celebrate our longtime members, this time recognizing Joan Kolpek who joined in 1993. She originally joined Newcomers when her son was a toddler. One of her neighbors told her about the club and she joined the Babysitting Club, Sip and Stitch, and Couples Bowling. She left the club for a short time but her next-door neighbor got her involved again with Cooking Light, Mah Jongg, and Book Club.

“My greatest joys have been reading books that I never would have picked up on my own, cooking dishes that have become family favorites, and, most of all, acquiring long-time friendships through Newcomers. I guess that some of my best memories include our trip to Italy, taking side trips with the Cooking Light Group, as well as some of the Tours and Outings trips that I took in the past. I can’t say enough about how much I love Newcomers!”

Joan, we love Newcomers, too, and look forward to having you as a member for many more years to come.

The Chili for Children event proved to be a job well done by the Volunteer/Outreach group who made chili, sandwiches, and dessert to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. Forty-three club members and guests attended this lunch that raised $1,000 in donations that will go to provide four dinners for 21 families residing at RMH. Those dinners will be cooked by members of the club’s Volunteer/Outreach group in late spring and summer. Special thanks to Anita Alford, Volunteer/Outreach Director, and her awesome team of Pat Vaught, Bonnie O’Neill, Kathy Shafer, and Anne Peschke for putting the event together.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our gatherings!

Brenda,

Newcomers & Friends of Lexington President
